I play guitar and sing in Russian and I've just moved to LA about a month ago from Paris. I put out an album in 2004 when i was living in New York. I have all my songs ready for the second album and I am forming a band to pull together a solid sound to record and play out.
My first album was just me and my guitar and was released on a small label in NY. It had a lot of airplay in the US, UK and other countries. In 2005 i was featured on the BBC's Charlie Gillett's world music compilation and was the only act that is just guitar+voice. NPR played my track when discussing the release. Roots are folk, but want a jamming contemporary sound. Think of Nick Cave with the Bad Seeds live, David Eugene Edwards (Sixteen Horse Power / Woven Hand), Manu Chao, Marc Ribot, Kino (Viktor Tsoy - Russian). Other world music that I relate to includes Lhasa, Cesaria Evora, Leonard Cohen, Camille, Richard Galliano.
We have rehearsal space with Drummer in Burbank. Looking to audition Thursday afternoon.
