WeCount! is seeking a director for the WeCount! Community Worker Center, an organizing and contracting center for day laborers opening in spring 2008.The center will provide a safe place for day laborers to seek temporary employment and organize for their rights, and for potential employers to seek temporary laborers. WeCount! is a multiethnic organization in Homestead that works to achieve social and economic justice by bringing immigrants, students, and working people together to inform themselves about their rights, support each other, develop their leadership, and take action to improve their lives. The Center Director will be in charge of overseeing the transition of workers from the street to the center; ensuring a healthy, friendly and professional environment is established in the center; ensuring that the process of contractor and worker registration is efficient; supervising a site coordinator; coordinating servise provision and leadership development; developing and implementing a marketing plan; developing and maintaining positive relationships with the community, and ensuring proper data collection and accountability procedures are kept. Candidates should speak English and Spanish; have excellent organizing, communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to immigrants' rights and social justice, and strong management and supervisory skills.
