Extremely rare Bert Pumphrey original surreal watercolor in original vintage frame, signed; made available through an art collector's liquidation. Actual watercolor is 12"H X 11" W; a little larger with frame.
About the artist- Bert Pumphrey was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1916. He somehow managed to enter the Art Institute of Chicago at fifteen years old; however, his career at the school was cut short when school authorities discovered his age and expelled him. Subsequently, he recieved a scholarship to the University of California at Los Angeles. He had a one-man show at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Fransisco in the late 1940's. He moved to Mexico soon afterwards, where he lived and painted until passing away in 2002.
His work is exclusively carried by a gallery in Hawaii where his "die hard" collectors assure values of this artist are on a steady incline.
The painting is in perfect condition, but could use a new matting due to age.
