An environmental and engineering firm seeks a Technical Editor to add to its team in the Valencia location. RESPONSIBILITIES: •Provides technical editing, writing/rewriting, and document management support to large, highly complex, multidisciplinary technical documents •Review for copyediting issues, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, logic, references, and clarity of figures and tables; checking for readable text, clear sentences and consistent style •Independently investigate and provide editorial solutions to document content, document management and information management issues •Provide editorial and support services as requested by management and clients •Provide editorial guidance as necessary to authors and reviewers •Ensure that document requirements are met •Review documents to ensure consistency of information with existing documentation set •Works closely with document production team members (editors, word processors) and helps coordinate the work of other support staff to ensure that technical publication projects are completed according to established requirements and on schedule •Acts as editorial reviewer of large documentation projects to include attending project meetings, managing document milestone schedules, and coordinating reviews and comment resolutions EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: •B.A. (minimum) or M.A. (preferred) degree in writing-intensive discipline and 4 years experience in government/contractor work environment or other applicable professional field •Excellent general software skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat (including understanding of PDF settings/creation as well as creating, merging, and troubleshooting markup in PDF) •Excellent editorial skills; must have thorough understanding of professional standards and resources •Demonstrate good and quick editorial judgment with sensitivity to customer demands while maintaining established editorial standards •Must be able to directly and rapidly describe editorial and documentation problems and solutions to individuals at all levels and maintain mutually constructive working relationships •Teamwork skills are essential •In an environment of constant priority changes, must be able to maintain a positive attitude and provide accurate work forecasts and status to teammates •Experience working with document production teams is desired, and familiarity with terminology of environmental sciences is a strong plus
