The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has an exciting opportunity for a development professional to direct an annual fund-raising campaign in Florida. Candidates will cultivate, solicit and steward individuals and foundations for special gifts to support the Association’s Mission.

The Special Gifts Officer will be responsible for working with local special event and small direct mail donors to personally identify, cultivate, solicit and steward them. Working full time, he/she will solicit in year one: $100,000, $200,000 in year two and $300,000 in year three.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Assisting the Director of Major and Planned Gifts in a targeted program of identification donors of more than $50,000
- Cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual major gifts of $50,000 and below and having a small planned giving prospects/donors goal of 10 closed agreements
- Personally managing a portfolio of 60+ donors of $10,000 to $50,000

In addition, the candidate will provide support to the Executive Directors in either Miami or Tampa depending on where the person resides that would include: (1) level one prospect research, (2) follow up coordination of donor stewardship material, (3) submit proposals and track work through the contact database (CURE), (4) scheduling lab tours and/or nurturing events, (5) stewardship of identified core list donors, and (6) if appropriate, making and confirming appointments for Executive Director and/or key volunteers in the area.

Interested professionals should have good people skills, a clear understanding of donor cultivation strategies and a passion for the Mission of ADA.

This position is a new position to be based in either our Ft Lauderdale,Miami or Tampa office and reports to the either the Miami or Tampa Executive Director.Applicants from both markets are encouraged to apply.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

* Bachelor's degree required
* Five years of fund-raising or sales/marketing experience
* Proven success in cultivation and solicitation techniques
* Excellent writing and project management skills
* Must be an effective, self-starter with a high level of personal integrity
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
* Must have access to a car as regular travel is required
* Experience in a national voluntary health association a plus
