The Registered Nurse is primarily responsible for performing general mental health and school nursing responsibilities to children and adolescents in the day treatment program and, as appropriate, administrative functions regarding staff health clearances, accident reports, and other records.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Dispenses prescribed medications to clients, as per M.D.'s orders and establishes and maintains medication records for Northpoint clients.
On Friday, have five (5) days of medication ready in med cups for each student by end of day.
Monitors and coordinates with assistant all pharmacy contacts, refill data, and prescription records.
Arranges/participates in medication monitoring interviews with clients and their parents, including giving instructions concerning M.D. orders.
Administers first aid, as appropriate. Monitors classroom first aide and emergency supplies.
Maintains necessary supplies and medications. Keeps these secure as appropriate.
Attends case conferences, clinical, and team meetings as appropriate.
Performs required student physical checks, i.e., vision screening, height and weight, yearly and as needed.
Assists in planning and implementing activities with clients on topics such as personal hygiene, sexual development, and nutrition.
Assists staff in crisis intervention and hospitalization of clients when appropriate.
Maintain copy of vision and hearing screening in each student's ed chart.
Maintains classrooms earthquake kits.
Maintains Daily Log Book of medications given to each student.
Administers TB screenings and annual flu shoots to Center staff, when available. Maintains TB clearances for every staff. Each staff must have an individual sheet on file.
Conducts weekly observations of clients with M.D., and discuss appropriate treatment plans and medication orders.
Maintains necessary records regarding staff, i.e., accident reports and health clearances.
Check that psychiatric assistant has updated med list (weekly) that is posted on inside of med cabinet door.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
R.N., may consider exceptional L.V.N.
Relevant nursing experience in special education setting, psychiatric facility and/or residential treatment program.
Must have a good sense of judgment as pertaining to the position.
Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities and use time effectively.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and look for ways to improve and promote quality.
