ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. As tutors, mentors, and role models, diverse teams of 17-to-24 year olds help children succeed by providing academic support, leading student enrichment programs, and organizing school and community events. These young leaders make a difference in the lives of children and transform schools and neighborhoods across the United States and in South Africa.

City Year’s vision is that one day the most commonly asked question of a young person will be: “Where are you going to do your service year?”

POSITION OVERVIEW: City Year Los Angeles recently launched its inaugural corps with 75 young people committing a year of service to the City of Los Angeles and is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial Recruitment Director to drive our strategic growth and lead the development and implementation of an aggressive campaign to double the program in the next two years.As the leader of the Recruitment Department, the Director will be a strategic thinker and entrepreneurial manager, able to effectively lead and mobilize others in order to give young people the opportunity to make a difference through full-time community service.Specifically, the Recruitment Director is responsible for developing and directing the implementation of a strategic plan to recruit, select, and admit a highly qualified corps of diverse 17-to-24 year olds.Activities include: community outreach, marketing, customer service, applicant screening and selection, systems management, staff training, and budget oversight.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, implement, and monitor strategic recruitment and marketing campaigns
  • Establish and achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual recruitment goals
  • Lead, coach and motivate a team of recruitment professionals engaged in outreach, communication and customer service
  • Develop strong external relationships with high schools, colleges, and community organizations
  • Oversee the development and execution of internal systems and processes to ensure outreach and admissions plans are effectively implemented
  • Manage all aspects of recruitment administration
  • Train and educate the entire City Year Los Angeles staff on outreach and recruitment strategies


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Significant experience in sales, college/high school recruitment, and/or admissions; experience with youth programs preferred
  • 2+ years of management experience leading and motivating diverse teams
  • At least one year City Year or comparable service organization experience is preferred
  • Desire to work with a diverse staff, applicant pool, and corps
  • Excellent interpersonal communication andpresentation skills; ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and think critically
  • Strong belief in the potential of youth as agents of social change
  • Familiarity with the Los Angeles area a plus; bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
