The photo editor will report to the editorial director and is responsible for managing the photo and graphics editing of magazines for multiple clients. Acting as an essential liaison between our customers, our live edit team, and our creative department – the photo editor will play a central role to the success of our magazines. This is an exciting and demanding position and one that the ideal candidate will be able to define further as it develops. This position requires knowledge of the company’s photo resources and budgetary requirements. The photo editor ensures that photos and illustrations meet company standards for relevance and quality, obtaining reprint permission when needed.The photo editor will develop and maintain a network of freelance photographers and illustrators. They will also be responsible for creating an in house image library through forging relationships with manufacturers and associations in the relevant industries. Some administrative duties will be required.
The photo editor will ensure a consistently high level of quality control, and will be passionate about finding compelling images that enhance our editorial products. They will be responsible for maintaining a consistent look and feel in each magazine using a mix of original and stock photography and illustrations.
Experience: Must have background or experience in photography.Must have an eye for design, and experience with magazines a plus. Must be bilingual English and Spanish. Other experience as photographer or photo editor for a magazine, newspaper, trade publication, or journal is a plus.
Other essential qualities include exceptional organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, objectivity, and the ability to work well with others. The ideal candidate also will thrive under pressure and meet deadlines consistently.
A bachelor’s degree in photojournalism, photography, communications, or a related field or equivalent professional experience is required. Minimum of two years experience in a publishing or graphic design environment.
