Americans are hungry for change and energized by politics like never before, and now is the time to convert that energy into concrete results. We must expand our majorities in Congress and win back the White House if we want to combat global warming, increase access to higher education, provide healthcare for all Americans, end corruption in Washington, and change course in Iraq.We also need to build people-powered organizations that will keep our elected leaders focused on solving these important problems in years to come.
In March or April, Grassroots Campaigns, Inc. will be opening a new outreach office here in Miami. We are seeking local applicants to start the operation from scratch and run it through November, or beyond.
The Position: Citizen Outreach Directors and Assistant Citizen Outreach Directors will be responsible for building and managing campaign teams of 15-50 paid staff. The core of the job is recruiting and training activists who can effectively communicate with tens of thousands of local citizens -- and help them voice their political concerns through immediate action, increased membership, and grassroots funding for the national Democratic Party and non-partisan progressive advocacy groups like ACLU, the League of Conservation Voters, and others.Since 2004, GCI staff have identified hundreds of thousands of new Democratic small donors, who have given campaigns the resources to make change possible without relying on corporate-connected large donors. Our work this year can help tip the balance next November and set priorities for the next President.
We are looking for results-driven candidates with leadership ability, good communication skills, and a strong commitment to social change. These are front-line campaign jobs with campaign hours.Prior political field work is not a requirement; we provide apprenticeship and experience to strong entry-level candidates who are looking for a way to start making a difference through grassroots politics. However, relevant experience is an asset and may qualify applicants for additional leadership responsibility.
Citizen Outreach Directors (and Assistant Directors) will:
Recruit, train, and manage teams of 15-50 canvassers
Develop plans for geographic targeting, and organize field logistics for their campaign
Handle administrative responsibilities (income, expenses, payroll, etc.)
Run an operation resulting in 30,000-100,000 contacts and raising $125,000-$500,000.
