We Won Washington State - Maybe

Let me explain. When you first arrive to the caucus you sign up on a sheet and give your candidate preference. Then you go inside and caucus. This involves little speeches, general shmoozing and sharing literature. People change their minds. Romney people have to decide whether they are really going to vote for a guy who dropped out. Also at the advice of headquarters, Ron Paul supporters signed in as uncommitted, to stay under the radar (remember Louisiana?). So a significant number of uncommitted were actually Paul supporters keeping a low profile.

In our precinct, a Rommney supporter was converted to Ron Paul after hearing about Paul's excellent tax voting record. So we ended up with a Huckabee and a Paul delegate after the voting and nothing for McCain. Now you'd think that after the voting and it was settled they would write up a new tally sheet. But they didn't, they just used the original sign up info to give the results to the media. So it was just straw poll data really, but of course the media never mentions that. As Dr. Paul has long made clear, the real strategy is in the delegates, not the popular vote.

Currently at 87.2 % precincts reporting in we have:

John McCain.....25.5 %
Mike Huckabee...23.7 %
Ron Paul........20.6 %
Mitt Romney.....16.5 %
Un committed....12.7 %
Other............1.1 %

If Paul got 70 % of the uncommitted votes, which is very likely, and the rest split between McCain and Huckabee, Paul wins.

And then there is the story about the PCO training meeting where half the cars in the lot were Ron Paul supporters. PCO's are all automatically delegates that go on to the county convention so this is very significant.

Will the true number of delegates be reported on the Washington GOP site? I don't think so, but I don't know how that works. I think it won't be apparent until our county convention happens and it's revealed from the vote.

And we can get even more defectors, ALL our elected delegates from yesterday are free to change their mind. They account for half of Washingtons delegates. We get the other half from the upcoming primary and those are not allowed to change their minds. A McCain scandal could break out between now and the convention too, who knows. A huge number of McCain voters are just holding their nose and voting for him only because they hate Hillary slightly more. That's not what I'd call a real solid commitment.

BTW, there were a number of precincts where NO ONE at all showed up. If a single Paul supporter had showed up, it would have been automatic delegate for Paul. Shame on the slackers.

Some gossip heard: a PCO told about receiving several phone calls from folks (neocons) worried the convention would be over run with Paul supporters and please get out the voters. He was a Paul supporter himself though so he thought that was pretty funny. :)

You want to make your reservations and travel plans to be at the national convention, regardless of how the primaries turn out. ANYTHING can happen UNTIL we actually give up. So don't! --Obadiah
