The Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired is an organization that is recognized as one of the foremost agencies providing vision rehabilitation to adults, adolescents and babies. SUMMARY: This position carries the major responsibilities for providing comprehensive rehabilitation and developmental training, and family/home intervention services to children aged birth to six. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: •Demonstrates experience and knowledge in effective therapeutic playgroups with children birth to six. •Keeps current on latest trends in blindness and early childhood development (INSITE, VIISA birth to two and VIISA three to five). •Recognizes symptoms of common mental and physical illnesses and makes referrals for their treatment. •Identifies and refers clients for the Lighthouse services; Initiates referrals to other agencies on behalf of client. •Plans training with families and individual clients. •Provides outreach support and training for family and client. •Calls families to discuss any vision concerns, needs or successes. •Knowledge of common medical terms and standard treatment procedures that pertain to clients of Miami Lighthouse children’s services. •Maintains required records. •Prepares accurate and timely correspondence and comprehensive reports. •Demonstrates excellent communication skills working with children and adults, expressing ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. •Participates in staff conferences. •Other duties as assigned or required. QUALIFICATIONS: •Bachelor's or Master's Degree in early childhood, special education, TVI or pediatric OT. •Experience working with therapeutic playgroups. •Able to function without close, ongoing supervision. •Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. •Proficient in use of computers including Excel, Word and Internet research. •Must have excellent interpersonal and communications skills. •Ability to write reports and business correspondence, effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, their families and the general public. •Self motivated, organized, and able to work with good judgment with unquestioned confidentiality with regard to records. •Must be able to successfully pass a Level 2 background screening.
