POSITION TITLE: Chemical Dependency Counselor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary: DOE Reports to: Program Director and Assistant Director Direct Client Contact Position: Yes ================================================================== Chemical Dependency Counselor conducts individual, family, and group counseling for clients enrolled in Prop. 36, General Relief, Medi-cal, Cal-Works, Outpatient, and Day Care Habilitativeprograms. The chemical dependency counselor also conducts initial assessments to evaluate client status and performs other duties as assigned.Must communicate fluently in oral and written English (Bilingual a plus) write notes, summaries, and reports in legible English. The chemical dependency counselor serves as mediator between clients, relatives, medical staff, and outside agencies (as needed). They are also responsible for tracking patient progress and dispensation of treatment services. The ideal candidate is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within this particular field, relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performs a variety of tasks, works under general supervision, and is a self-starter. A. Education and/or Experience: The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent and meets the standards for Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification Board or is in the process of receiving their certification, as well as 2-3 years of experience with chemical dependency programs, working with both males and females.*Applicant has 6 months from hire date to register with a DMC approved certifying agency. B. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities (not limited to): Must have knowledge of conducting substance abuse assessments; able to establish rapport with client base; possess good interpersonal skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge, sensitivity, and awareness of target population. Requires ability to be a team player, to form mutually respectful partnerships with clients and their families, and desire to grow professionally in meeting the challenges of this position. Additionally: oMaintain accurate documentation of treatment and other services in accordance with Federal, State, County, ADPA, and Plaza/Esperanza guidelines. oProp. 36 - Demonstrate knowledge of TCPX system and maintains reports for the participants progress to Probation Officer and Prop 36 courts. oExperience with or adaptability to drug and alcohol treatment modalities. C. Certification/Licenses: State of California Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor Certificate (or in the process of completing) D. Pre- Employment: Employer Reference Checks (Previous 2 years) E. Employment contingent upon successful completion/proof of the following: a. Permanent U. S. residency or citizenship b. Valid California drivers and current automobile liability insurance policy c. Sex Offender Registry Screening d. Criminal Conviction Records Check e. Child Abuse and Neglect Screening f. Negative TB Test g. Re-Credentialing
